Rand Heer is Alight's President and the designer of Alight Planning.
Rand has thirty years management experience in IT services, software, biotechnology and manufacturing. Alight is his fifth startup.
Prior to Alight, Rand focused on business intelligence software. He co-founded Aspirity, a business intelligence consulting firm acquired by Hitachi Consulting. He started and sold a training company that developed the industry standard curricula for Essbase, an OLAP database. He developed the training for Microsoft’s SQL server business intelligence software. His Microsoft classes are delivered worldwide by 200+ trainers.
Rand is a popular speaker on financial modeling and new venture subjects. He has written white papers on business planning and contributed to two books including the Microsoft Press best seller Business Intelligence: Making Better Decisions Faster.

The Pillar connection
Rand’s love for financial models and business planning came together at Pillar Corporation, a software company he founded in 1988.
With $15 million in venture backing, he designed and launched Pillar, the standard-setting software package for budgets and forecasting.
Today, Hyperion Pillar is marketed worldwide in seven languages and has one of the largest installed bases of any enterprise planning package.
Before Pillar, Rand was CFO of two public companies and financial officer for subsidiaries of Rockwell International. He earned an MBA from Harvard Business School a long time ago.
