Where do calculations take place?
In Alight Planning, all calculations occur “in memory”. This means that calculations typically take place on each Alight user’s computer. In this case, each computer should be equipped to just handle one user’s load. In a “Virtual Desktop” environment (aka Terminal Services), all users’ calculations take place on the set of terminal services servers. If multiple users are likely to work simultaneously, the load on the server increases proportionally. This is why it is important for Virtual Desktop servers to be very well equipped to handle the calculations caused by multiple Alight users. Typical Server Configuration
Alight Planning is installed on a Windows file server. Alight users run the software off the server in their own machines’ memory.
- For simpler Alight files: 1.6 GHz or faster CPU with 3 MB of on-board cache, 2 GB of RAM*
- For more complex Alight files: 2.4 GHz or faster CPU with 4 Mb of on-board cache, 4 GB of RAM*
Typical Desktop User Configuration
Alight users run the software in their machines’ memory. Software can be installed on a server or a local machine.
- For simpler Alight files: 1.6 GHz or faster CPU with 3 MB of on-board cache, 2 GB of RAM*
- For more complex Alight files: 2.4 GHz or faster CPU with 4 Mb of on-board cache, 4 GB of RAM*
Server Configuration (Citrix or Remote Services)
Alight Planning is installed on a Citrix or Remote Services server. Alight users connect remotely and run the software on the same server.
- 2.8 GHz or faster CPU with at least 6 MB of on-board cache, even more for more than 2-3 simultaneous users
- 2 GB of RAM for each expected simultaneous Alight user
- One CPU core per 1-2 expected simultaneous Alight users

General
- Operating system: Windows XP or newer, 32- or 64-bit systems supported
- Screen resolution of at least 1280x800x24-bit
- Internet connection is required to download and activate Alight Planning
- Internet connection is required to check for updates of software and activation
- Internet connection is required for Alight Planning Help
- Alight Planning only utilizes a single core of a single processor on any system
- No additional software is required to run Alight Planning, except for .NET Framework v3.5SP1 or newer.
- Disk space: about 30 MB of disk space required for Alight Planning, plus disk space for storing the files (average being less than 50 MB per Alight user) for each Alight model.
